Candy Scar — meaning
Candy Scar is written as a sugary K-pop fanchant — whipped cream, pudding, jelly, 'Dreamy! Cutie! Love! Kyun!' — and every one of its sweet lines is literally true of two zombies on a slaughter stage. Nothing in it is metaphor. 'We'll rot away together' is a love vow and a description of their bodies. The song never drops the cute delivery, and that is the horror.
The four-line English prologue is the only honest moment
Before the beat starts, a choir sings in English: 'Those bound by iron chains now / They still stare toward the night / Wounded souls still breathing / Glory be upon them.' It is funereal, and it describes the performers accurately. Then the track smash-cuts into '(Dreamy! Cutie! Love! Kyun!)' and never returns to that register. The prologue is the audience's programme note; everything after it is the show.
Every 'even if' is a stage direction
The chorus is built on concessive clauses that a normal idol song would use as hyperbole: 망가져도 괜찮아 ('even if we break, it's all right'), 지워져도 ('even if erased'), 무너져도 ('even if it crumbles'), 살아도 좋아 죽어도 좋- ('living is fine, dying is fine-'). In the Zombie Stage arena the loser is dismembered and sold. Sua loses this round by a single point and her arm is cut off. The lyrics are not bracing for a breakup.
함께 썩어가는거야 — the line the cute delivery is hiding
Late in the song comes 함께 썩어가는거야 미쳐 아름답게 — 'we'll rot away together, beautifully insane.' It is sung in the same bright register as the pudding-and-jelly hook. This is the thesis of the whole AU: decomposition reframed as devotion, and devotion sold as entertainment. The next line, 여긴 이미 낙원인 걸 ('this place is already paradise'), is the arena's own marketing copy coming out of a dead girl's mouth.
'Sweet spark' becomes 'Sweet Scar'
The same couplet appears twice — 오직 너랑 나 단 둘만의 ('only you and me, just the two of us') resolving into an English tag. The first time the tag is 'Oh my, sweet spark.' The last time it is 'Oh my, Sweet Scar.' The title is not stated until the song has finished converting the spark into the wound. The Korean pun sits in 상처가 아리는 건 쓰라린 Candy tongue — the ache of the wound and the sting of candy on the tongue are the same sensation.
Idol-fan language, meant literally
너는 나의 신이야 / 너는 나의 우주야 ('you are my god / you are my universe') is stock fan-chant vocabulary. Sua means it: in this universe she infected herself with the virus on purpose, with a kiss, so the outbreak could not separate them. 대신 숨 쉬어 줄게 ('I'll breathe for you instead') reads as a sweet promise until you remember neither of them is breathing.
The countdown that stops at two
The outro chants (셋, 둘.) — 'three, two.' It never reaches one. What follows instead is (마지막.), 'Last one,' and then a final drawn-out cheer. Round 1 ends with one performer walking off and one performer on the table; the count is completed by the result, not by the song.
