MY CLEMATIS — meaning
My Clematis is the first song in Alien Stage — the Round 1 duet between Mizi and Sua. It is short, almost entirely refrain, and its whole tragedy is carried by two single-syllable changes in the final chorus: 핀 (bloomed) becomes 진 (withered), and 항상 (always) becomes 제발 (please).
핀 → 진: hope that bloomed, then withered
The chorus runs 오 나의 클레마티스 / 심연에서 핀 희망 — 'oh my Clematis, hope bloomed through the abyss.' The last time it comes round, one syllable moves: 심연에서 진 희망, 'hope withered in the abyss.' 핀 and 진 differ by a single consonant. Nothing else in the line changes. That is the round's result, written into the song before it happens.
항상 → 제발: from a promise to a plea
The other half of the refrain shifts with it. 항상 곁에 있어 줘 ('always be by my side') becomes 제발 곁에 있어 줘 ('please, stay by my side'). The first is something you say to someone who is there. The second is something you say to someone who is leaving. Then the song stops on 나의 클레마티스 alone, with the request removed entirely.
Why a clematis
Clematis is a climbing vine — it cannot stand up without something to hold on to. The verse builds the image out: 높은 칠흑의 담 / 이곳에 피어난 너, 'you bloomed from the huge black wall.' The flower is not just pretty in this song; it is a plant that survives only by gripping the structure that confines it. Two girls raised inside Anakt Garden, in love with each other, is the same shape.
The verse is the only place the arena disappears
네 눈 안의 은하 / 별빛이 펼쳐지네 — 'the galactic stardust spread out in your eyes.' 끝없이 깊은 암흑 / 네 향으로 널 찾아 — 'in the endless darkness I find you by your scent.' For eight lines the song leaves the stage entirely and becomes two people locating each other in the dark. Then the chorus returns and takes it back.

Released September 7th, 2022 as ALNST Original Soundtrack Part.1 — the first track of the series. Rubyeye sings Mizi, C!naH sings Sua. Mizi wins the round. VIVINOS has since rescored the song twice: as a String Special instrumental in July 2025, and as the 3rd Anniversary remix My Clematis (Luka & Hyuna.ver), with an earlier Ivan & Till version from the 1st Anniversary.
