  • Character name

    Mizi

    미지 · Mi-ji

    Say it like
    MEE-jee
    Syllable breakdown
“MEE” (like “me”) + “jee” (like the letter G, but softer).
    Common mistake
Not “MY-zee”. The i is always a long ee, and the second consonant is a soft j, not a z.
    Note
Korean ㅈ is closer to English j at the start of a syllable but noticeably softer — think “jeep” with less air.

  • Character name

    Sua

    수아 · Su-a

    Say it like
    SOO-ah
    Syllable breakdown
“SOO” (like “Sue”) + “ah” (open-mouth ah, like a doctor visit).
    Common mistake
Two full syllables, not one. Not “Swa” or “Sway”. Give the “ah” its own beat.
    Note
Both syllables carry roughly equal weight in casual speech; some fans emphasise SOO in fanfic dialogue.

  • Character name

    Till

    · Til

    Say it like
    TEEL
    Syllable breakdown
Rhymes with English “feel”, not with English “till”.
    Common mistake
The English word “till” has a short i (like “tin”). Till the character has a LONG ee — closer to “teal” without the a.
    Note
The final ㄹ is closer to an English L than an R when at the end of a syllable. Do not add an extra vowel: it’s one crisp syllable.

  • Character name

    Ivan

    이반 · I-ban

    Say it like
    EE-bahn
    Syllable breakdown
“EE” (like the letter E) + “bahn” (like “barn” without the r).
    Common mistake
Not the Russian “EYE-vun” or “ee-VAHN”. Korean 이반 has an even stress and a B, not a V — Korean has no V sound, so the ㅂ is a soft b.
    Note
Both syllables are short and equal. The most common English error is stressing the second syllable; in Korean neither syllable is stressed the way English speakers expect.

  • Character name

    Isaac

    이삭 · I-sak

    Say it like
    EE-sahk
    Syllable breakdown
“EE” (like the letter E) + “sahk” (like “sock” but with an ah).
    Common mistake
Not the biblical “EYE-zik”. In Korean it’s “EE-sahk” — first syllable is a long ee, second is a short, unaspirated k.
    Note
The final ㄱ is unreleased — you don’t hear the k pop. Fanfic writers often spell his name “Isaac” in English out of convention, but the pronunciation stays Korean.

  • Character name

    Hyuna

    현아 · Hyeon-a

    Say it like
    HYUH-nah
    Syllable breakdown
“HYUH” (like the sound before you sigh) + “nah” (like the English “no” without the o).
    Common mistake
Not “HY-oona” (three syllables). The first ㅕ is a single vowel closer to “uh” than to “oo”, so it’s HYUH-nah, two beats.
    Note
The romanisation “Hyuna” (from the K-pop soloist) is more familiar to global audiences than the strict RR “Hyeon-a”, so we use it across the site.

  • Character name

    Luka

    루카 · Lu-ka

    Say it like
    LOO-kah
    Syllable breakdown
“LOO” (like “loop” without the p) + “kah” (like “car” without the r).
    Common mistake
Not “LUKE-ah” (English name “Luke” + a) and not “LYOO-kah”. Two flat syllables, equal weight.
    Note
The ka is slightly aspirated — you can feel a small puff of air. Do not swap it for a soft g.

Why the pronunciations differ from English intuition

Alien Stage is a Korean web-animation and every character has a Korean name in Hangul. Fans across YouTube and TikTok have made dozens of pronunciation reels because English intuitions get several of the names wrong in ways that stick — most notably Till (rhymes with “feel”, not the English word “till”) and Isaac (Korean 이삭 “EE-sahk”, not the biblical “EYE-zik”).

The audio in this tool uses your browser's built-in Korean speech synthesis (SpeechSynthesis API with a ko-KR voice). Chrome on desktop and Safari on iOS have high-quality native Korean voices; on some Android devices the voice quality is lower, in which case the syllable breakdown text is the more reliable guide.
